The Near-term Effects of the IoT/Cloud/Machine Learning Convergence

Data generated by IoT sensors will be its own force of change. Massive cloud-based storage now enables data to be collated and accessed at will – which in turn is making data processing technologies like machine learning and analytics increasing valuable. Once data is available on a network, adding smart software changes everything. This session identifies some near-term trends that telecom operators need to be thinking about, and how they can take advantage of them:

  • Data will become increasingly separated from its place of origin
  • Alarms will become sophisticated and predictive
  • Maintenance will be more predictive, reducing emergency response
  • Security will change from air-gapped to built-in
  • Standard operating procedures will really become standardized

Operators that take advantage of these trends to gain insights and take action will gain a clear competitive advantage.
